KZN Health probes allegations of fake medical intern

KZN Health is probing allegations that a 23-year-old woman, who hadn't completed high school has been posing as a medical intern at various local hospitals.

She was arrested on fraud charges recently. 


She's allegedly worked at five facilities over three years. 


According to a Sunday Times report, Nokwanda Ndlovu, a high school dropout claimed to be a university student who needed to complete her internship. 


She allegedly moved from one facility to another and she performed medical procedures without formal training. 


Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu's confirmed that a criminal investigation's underway.

"Its not that she has duped the department for years cause that's not really possible. 


The MEC said, during the holidays, student doctors are given an opportunity to work in facilities and management must be able to follow up and ensure that they have got the right information from the medical schools that they come from. 


"So the matter is currently being investigated as soon as the courts have ruled on the matter, we will be able to speak on it."

Ndlovu - who's out on on bail - is due back in the Nkandla Magistrate's Court next week."
