Protests and fires break out in Lamontville

It's been a busy morning for eThekwini Fire after protests broke out in Lamontville, south of Durban.

Firefighters are trying to extinguish multiple blazes in the area, that appears to have been started by community members.
It's not clear what their demonstrations are about at this stage.

Xolani Zikalale - one of the firefighters tackling the flames, says there are multiple fires in the area, including a municipal building, vehicles and trucks that have been set alight.

"We are busy trying to calm down the situation and deal with the fires," said Zikalale.
Motorists have been asked to avoid the area for now.
