KZN Health considers recruiting cancer specialists abroad
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
KZN Health says recruiters will be looking to countries overseas as the department takes steps to address our oncology problem.
MEC, Sibongiseni Dhlomo says short-term contracts will be offered to foreign specialists to ease the pressure in the public sector.
Dhlomo says they have also started repairing and buying more cancer treatment machines for Durban's Inkosi Albert Luthuli and Addington Hospitals - taking the number of operational units from four to six.
"We're considering countries like India and anywhere in Europe - we are not picky. The minister is working on it. As long as we can get oncologists to work for four years - that's the kind of support we will need," he says.
