KZN guard to spend weekend behind bars for theft

A Richards Bay security officer suspected of stealing more than R200,000 will spend the weekend behind bars.

Simphiwe Gumede is accused of collecting cash from one of his company's clients in Ulundi and not depositing it in the money volt.
The security company launched an internal investigation after the client enquired about the cash.
The security company found a receipt book had been altered.

Officials say R26,000 was found at Gumede's Richards Bay home during a search.
He appeared in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court this week.
His case was postponed to Tuesday.
