Justice and public works officials will step into the newly refurbished building on Friday morning.

Pat Moodley, the head of KZN's Department of Justice, says the court desperately needed a facelift.

"Chatsworth has grown both residential components as well as the economic hub in that area has grown, and the court has become insufficient for the needs required to serve."

She says new features were included during the restoration project, with around seven high-security courtrooms.

"This is a regional court that will take of more serious matters as well as sexual offence matters; there is a proper sexual offences court with a separate intermediate room so children and vulnerable adults can give evidence via CCTV camera and don't have to face perpetrators in court."

Justice and Constitutional Development Deputy Minister John Jeffery and Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Sihle Zikalala will officiate the opening.
