KZN Grade R teachers ‘to be paid on Thursday’
Updated | By Tsakane Mhlongo
Grade R educators who have not received their April salaries should expect them on Thursday.

That's according to the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), which has been engaging with the Department of Education in KZN on the matter.
SADTU KZN's Nomarashiya Caluza said the department's promised teachers will receive salaries if a special payment run from the Premier's Office is approved.
" The feedback from the department is that they have been granted a special run and they're processing, so we are looking forward to those payments."
She's hoping issues like delayed salaries will be avoided once the BELA Act is fully implemented, as it will make Grade R attendance compulsory.
" Implementation of the BELA Act will assist because you'll not have Grade R practitioners who have their contracts terminated every March or at the end of the financial year.
"Also, whilst they are working on the implementation of the BELA Act, what they can do is to remove the end date on the system so that they continue working and they only remove those that are retiring or those who have left the Grade R to other phases of the department."
