Local government has teamed up with service providers to
boost crime prevention efforts in KwaZulu-Natal.

The latest fourth-quarter crime stats statistics show that the province recorded the highest number of rape cases, accounting for nearly 20% of the national total.
KZN also tops the list as one of the four provinces responsible for the highest murder rates in the country.
The Department of Community Safety's HOD, Glenrose Xaba-Makhetha, says they have been involving stakeholders in discussions on introducing new crime-fighting technology, including drones:
"Two months ago, the premier had an engagement with the service providers that are playing in the space of technology, where he wanted them to showcase a technology that can assist in terms of GBV and also in terms of a crime in general."

She says they have contacted the business sector to work with them.
"We are not going to win this fight if we work alone. So, the business sector can also assist us, even in terms of resources, so that when we conclude our strategy, the business sector is also part of the role, that are also bringing in their resources. Bringing in their capacity to make sure that as a province we are better equipped to be able to fight this crime."
