KZN govt intensifies Pink Eye awareness as cases grow

The KwaZulu-Natal government says it has ramped up its awareness campaign as more Pink Eye cases are reported in other disctricts.

The bulk of the confirmed infections is in eThekwini with over 13 500 cases.


King Cetshwayo District has reported 39 infections, followed by Umgungundlovu with 16, uMkhanyakude with 15, and Ilembe and Ugu with 14 and 9 respectively.

Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube has urged residents to practise good hand hygiene to help fight the spread of the contagious bacterial infection.


"The first cases of Pink Eye were reported at Mangosuthu University of Technology in eThekwini and Cato Manor Clinic. The Executive Council indicated that an intensive awareness campaign will be undertaken to educate the public about Pink Eye.
