Rawlins was shot and killed on Saturday, allegedly by her estranged husband.

Police say the mother-of-three had been at a party when an argument broke out between her and her partner.

She was gunned down in Ashburton while her brother, who had intervened earlier, was driving her home.

Ian Rawlins made his first appearance in court this week.

He plans to apply for bail.

A close friend and creator of the 'Justice for Delana' Facebook page Elton Adkins says they ran into Ian hours before the shooting.

"One Saturday at half past three my wife and I saw her husband at Northway Mall Spar and we greeted him and hugged him and ask him how are things and just a few hours later just, to find out that she has been murdered.

"It was a blow to the gut, honestly. It has been difficult to cope with. We all are reeling from the shock of what has happened in such a brutal way."

It is understood the couple was in the process of divorcing.

Adkins says it was known that they were having marital problems.

"We want the laws to be stricter when it comes to women abuse. We have seen too much in our community of men getting away with murder."

Rawlins' funeral service will be held at One Life Church in Westgate on Saturday.
