Five of the men were arrested on Wednesday in three different locations in Tongaat.

Two others were nabbed last month in Bester in KwaMashu.

KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the group has been terrorising the areas of KwaMashu, Ndwedwe, Tongaat, Nsuze and Umhlali.

"Preliminary investigation has positively linked one of the suspects with the fatal shooting of a tracking company officer and a case of armed robbery where a security company vehicle and a firearm were stolen.

"The suspects were found in possession of two firearms and several rounds of ammunition, numerous vehicle number plates, house breaking implements as well as suspected stolen property.

"Follow-up information led the tracking and tracing team to Besters area where a bakkie which was reported hijacked in Nsuze in September 2023 was recovered."

Netshiunda says they believe the men could be part of a gang thought to be behind hijackings along the R613 and some house robberies in Nsuze.

He says detectives are looking into whether the suspects are linked to any other crimes.
