KZN game lodge assess damage after devastating wildfire

The owners of a KwaZulu-Natal game lodge are counting the costs after a wildfire ripped through the property.

Gwahumbe Game Lodge and Spa in Mid-Illovo burnt to the ground.
The owner of the reserve Shanon Mackenzie says staff and locals fought all night - trying to save the property.
The fire allegedly started 16 kilometres away early yesterday morning and quickly spread through the region with the help of strong winds.

The reserve is home to giraffe, buck, wildebeest and a large variety of bird life.
Local farmers and workers from a nearby game reserve are now helping to assist to track down and feed stranded wildlife.
McKenzie, who described the support from locals as phenomenal, says the damage caused by the fire will run into the millions.
