KZN floods: Province marks month since rains began
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
KZN's marking a month today since heavy rains lashed parts of the province, triggering devastating floods and landslides.
435 people are known to have lost their lives in the disaster - many homes and some major roads were washed away. But it's been torture for the families of 63 people still missing who're unable to find closure.
Thandiwe Duka from Reservoir Hills, west of Durban, says she hasn't been able to lay her eight-year-old daughter to rest yet.
She explains what happened to little Simokuhle the night the disastrous rains hit.
"It was late and we were sleeping and it was raining heavily and it flooded all the houses. We tried to help her but we couldn't, there was water coming in."
An emotional Thandiwe says searches have been carried out but there's still no sign of her child.
She feels heavy machinery needs to be brought to dig under the rubble of their collapsed home

"They came and searched but they didn't find anything, we need something big because we suspect Simokuhle is still there."
"A lot of things are there, it's terrible I can't even sleep. I just want to see even the bones so I can rest."
