KZN Fires: Underberg hotel burns down

Authorities have confirmed that a wildfire broke out in Underberg in southern Drakensberg on Thursday night and has burned down the Bushmans Nek Berg and Trout Resort.

Manager of the Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality, Nkosiyezwe Vezi says firefighters worked through the night to contain the blaze.
"We got a call yesterday night there was a fire at Bushman's Nek Hotel. Our fire brigade went there responding to the call. "
"This is a result of what we are told was a wildfire that started in the neighbourhood and proceeded to the hotel and it caught fire. The hotel was raised to the ground. Extensive damage was done to property."

Vezi says firefighters managed to get the blaze under control early on Friday morning.
"Local volunteers together with our fire brigade were able to extinguish the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported or deaths. People are devastated because the hotel because it was a source of tourism attraction and a source of employment for many people.
