Local government authorities say emergency teams are in place across KZN, in anticipation of more rainfall overnight and beyond.
The South African Weather Services has warned of persisting showers across the province that could lead to localised flooding.
"In the places along the coast - including eThekwini - we are expecting heavy rainfall for tonight into tomorrow morning. People who stay along the coast and adjacent interior are advised to be on alert for tonight," forecaster Julius Mahlangu said.
Cogta is urging residents to pay attention to the weather alerts and to take all necessary steps to protect themselves from any possible harm.
eThekwini is also watching this spell of rainfall closely.

Over three weeks ago, heavy rains in Durban and surrounds claimed several lives and flooded homes in the northern parts of the city.
City spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela says their teams are on high alert.
"We are also appealing to our people who may happen to be in low-lying areas - to be cautious because there might be localised flooding. Also, we are appealing to motorists who may be on the road to take it easy and ensure that they adhere to the rules of the road and reduce speed. We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the night," Mayisela said.
