KZN election results now ‘game of coalitions'
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks and Mamelisa Ngcongo
A political analyst has given his view on who the possible coalition partners in KwaZulu-Natal could be.

The African National Congress in the province appears to be spiralling into opposition territory.
Analyst Precious Legayeni thinks the MK party might just get more than 50 per cent in the KZN.
"If it does fall under 51 per cent, it does, it will fall at about 48 per cent or so, and they will need another party to go into coalition with. But the question is which part?

"We don't know whether MK can go into a coalition with the ANC - we don't foresee that. The biggest possibility for me - and this is purely my opinion, MK may go into a coalition with the IFP. I think that is where the possibility lies for now."
With some analysts also predicting a coalition government at a national level, the United Democratic Movement has set its eyes on becoming a kingmaker
The party's Nqabayomzi Kwankwa says they had hopes of reaching over a million votes.
In 2019, the UDM garnered over 78 thousand votes.

"We wanted to make sure we got at least 500,000 votes. Initially, we started at one million, but we didn't have the resources to invest in such a campaign, so we set about 500,000 votes, which would give us about 10 seats and would enable us to be kingmakers.
"Because it won't be a single political party that would claim majority to be able to govern the country after this election. It going to be a game of coalitions."
