KZN elderly farmer fights back, kills alleged attacker

Police are searching for a man, linked to an attempted robbery, that turned deadly on a farm in Pietermaritzburg.

It's understood that a 78-year-old man was repairing his vehicle, on his Bishopstowe property yesterday, when two attackers threatened him with a knife.
Police say the man opened fire, killing one of the suspects.
The other escaped unharmed. Netcare 911's Shawn Herbst.

"A man believed to be a suspect was shot dead in an alleged farm attack after a scuffle broke out between a farmer and two of the alleged suspects who were armed with knives and cable ties."
He says the farmer reported that the second attacker ran into the bush as soon as the shooting occurred.
"Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities."
Charges of attempted robbery and an inquest were opened at Bishopstowe for investigation.
