Prisoners to embark on nationwide hunger strike

Prisoners' rights group, Sapohr, says some prisoners will be embarking on a month-long hunger strike.

It says pleas for assistance amid calls to address overcrowding and poor conditions have fallen on deaf ears.
"And Nutrition, medical attention and reading material but it doesn't happen."
Spokesperson Miles Bhudu says they'll be drawing attention to a number of grievances, over the next few weeks.

"The department of correctional services, sanitisation, masks, testing and preventive measures are not taken seriously.
"Kitchen equipment is messed up and that's why some prisons go to bed without eating because the system is busy falling apart."
