KZN Education urges pupils against distributing bullying video
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Department of Education in KZN has made an appeal to learners to stop sharing a video of an assault of a 16-year-old Werda High School pupil.
According to the school's governing body, the pupil implicated in the video and the one that recorded that clip - which went viral last week - has been suspended.
The governing body also confirmed that the victim is currently receiving counselling.
The Department's Kwazi Mthetwa says they are waiting for the investigation report before acting on the incident.
"We want to warn other learners who are busy distributing the video clips. It's not fair. They must just stop it because it therefore means that they are further victimising the already victimised learner. Moving forward, we are saying they must stop it because it won't be allowed," he said.
Last week, the guardian of the pupil who was seen in a video being beaten up confirmed to Newswatch that a case of assault had been opened at the Malvern Police Station.
In the video, the learner is being confronted before being slapped, pushed to the ground and kicked several times.
The scuffle on Tuesday, apparently started after the victim reported the bully to school management for allegedly carrying a knife to school.
