KZN Education, traditional leaders tackle school faction fighting

KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC, Mthandeni Dlungwana says they have been forced to reach out to traditional leaders for help to put an end to factional fighting on school grounds.
The province made headlines recently after pupils from several schools were involved in factional fights. Some of the learners were found carrying knives, guns and other weapons.
Speaking during a prayer gathering in the rural Gezubuso area, near Pietermaritzburg, Dlungwana said the trend was confusing and needed the urgent intervention of community leaders.

"This thing is new. So, we are going to be working here in this area, with Umbimbi Lwamabutho. In different areas, they come together and are able to talk. When there is an issue, they are able to talk about that," said Dlungwana.
"We have started that program of working with Umbimbi Lwamabutho in ensuring that when there are challenges of faction fights, we are able to address them," the MEC continued.
MEC of Education, Mthandeni Dlungwana says they strategically chose the area of Gezubuso as it has one of the best performing rural schools in the province despite challenges.@ECR_Newswatch @SteveBhengu pic.twitter.com/okW6yyxqXH
