KZN Education officials visit Richards Bay school after violent video goes viral

KZN Education officials say they have been left deeply disturbed by a video showing violence at Richards Bay Secondary School.
The footage shows a pupil punching and stabbing another learner with what appears to be a knife.
The attack reportedly took place on Friday.
MEC Mthandeni Dlungwane visited the school today.
Department spokesperson Kwazi Mthethwa says they are concerned that weapons are being taken to school.
"Some of these learners bring dangerous weapons, they take drugs in the school. There are issues of safety and we have been told that apparently a second person was attacked last Friday. It is a worrying factor to us as the Department Of Education in KwaZulu Natal," he said.

Mthethwa says the department has also identified leadership problems at the school.
"Generally there is a lack of leadership from the side of the school principal, but we wont rush things, we are going to allow an investigation to take place and there is a team appointed that is going to start investigating."
The incident in Richards Bay follows another attack at an Inanda school north of Durban last year. That video only surfaced online recently. A schoolboy is shown kicking and punching a schoolgirl multiple times.
