KZN Education investigates school trip drowning
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Education authorities say they are investigating whether a KZN school complied with excursion policies after one of its pupils drowned while on school trip last week.
The incident happened at a dam in Shakaskraal.
The six-year-old boy had been on a raft with fellow learners when three of them fell into the water.
Two pupils were saved, but the third drowned.
Department spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi says it's tragic incident for both the school and parents.
"We are interested in determining what transpired. We will check their plan and the execution of it. At this point in time, we don't want to suspect anyone or point fingers at anyone. We have lost a child - both the school, the department and parents. We are investigating the matter," he says.
