KZN Education hoped for remedial action in Durban school race row
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The KZN Department of Education says it would have liked the opportunity to work with and remediate a Durban teacher who allegedly made racist remarks during one of her classes.
According to a statement issued by Westville Girls' High School, the teacher resigned this week. Education's Muzi Mahlambi says it's unfortunate.
"We wish that she had not resigned so that she would have been taken to a programme to educate her so that she becomes a holistic and better teacher moving forward," he said.

He says racism has no place in our schools.
"We are urging everyone to instil a multicultural spirit in our learners so that moving forward what we are trying to achieve as a young democracy, we achieve," Mahlambi said.
The school's principal, Catherine Raw had stated that the educator's comments are not shared by the school.
