KZN Edu probes possible math paper 1 leak at two schools

While the Basic Education Department is trying to get to the bottom of the matric Maths Paper 2 leak officials in KZN probing the possibility of a Paper 1 leak at a second school in the Ugu district.

The Mercury today reported that pupils at a south coast school had access to Maths Paper 1 the day before it was written.


Speaking to Newswatch, KZN Education's Muzi Mahlambi says they were made aware of this alleged incident and says a second school might have also been involved.

He's warned there will be serious consequences if anyone is found guilty of cheating. 


"We want to assure the public that if this is found to be true we will have to take action against people who were in possession of this paper. 


Maths Paper 1 was written last week Thursday while pupils sat for the second paper on Monday. 


The Hawks have been brought on board to help investigate the paper 2 leak which is believed to have spread to all but one province - which is the Free State.


"The Hawks are busy investigating the genesis of the and they are also checking how widespread this is. Then we will be able to determine whether the paper will warrant rewriting or just to deal with a few [schools]"
