KZN duo accused of stealing railway tracks make court appearance

Two suspected thieves will be in a Greytown Court today for allegedly stealing railway tracks said to be worth R8 million.

The duo was arrested at a scrap metal yard on South Coast Road in Durban.
Police had been following up on leads on stolen railway tracks and railway sleepers on Friday when they nabbed the two.

KZN SAPS spokesperson, Jay Naicker says Transnet officials have positively identified the items.
"Staff at the premises were questioned, and it was discovered that the seller had used fraudulent documentation to sell the item to them. A total of 181 tons of Transnet infrastructure was seized by police."
"Further investigation led police to the owners of a scrapyard located in Greytown, where two suspects aged 31 and 59 were arrested."
They appeared in the Greytown Magistrates Court for tampering with essential infrastructure.
