KZN correctional services official contracts virus
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The KwaZulu Natal Correctional Services Department has reported its first confirmed COVID-19 case.
The department says it's an official who has contracted the virus.
Spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo says they won't be revealing too much information on individual cases.
"We took a decision that we will no longer be providing comment on individual cases the reason being that our officials are subjected to extreme stigmatisation by members of the public, professionals - at shopping places people are pointing fingers at them.

"It's not assisting anyone. We, therefore, decided only to provide a provincial breakdown, because our officials are infected because they stay in communities where the virus is."
Recently - the Correctional Services minister announced the possible early release on parole of around 19 000 low-risk inmates - in a bid to alleviate overcrowding in prisons and lessen the possible spread of the coronavirus.
