KZN Cogta seeks information on alleged arsonists
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
Arsonists who set fire to KwaZulu-Natal's Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs offices in Cato Manor this week, are still on the run.
The offices were gutted during violent demonstrations early yesterday morning - when community members took to the streets again over land and housing issues.
The blaze is estimated to have caused R17-million worth of damage.
COGTA believes the ongoing unrest is related to the Cato Crest land invasions.
The department's Lennox Mabaso is urging people with information to come forward.
"We believe this is an attack on democracy. It is an attempt to sabotage the operations of government because government offices are a launching pad for service delivery. No one should get away with this heinous deed. Indeed, we ask communities and police to work with to make sure that we are able to apprehend those behind the act."
