KZN celebrates success of province’s matric pupils

As matric celebrations ring out countrywide, education officials in KZN marked the success of the province's top achievers in Durban on Friday morning.

The class of 2023 scored an overall pass rate of 82.9%.
Provincially, KZN took second place after the Free State with a pass rate of 86.36%.
A special awards ceremony was hosted at the Durban ICC by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga and KZN MEC Mbali Frazer.
Newswatch spoke to some of the top achievers before this morning's event.

Thabiso Masuku from Umlomo-Wezulu High in Phongolo said he wants to study medicine.
"I was actually best in Zululand in mathematics. I'm so much happy. I'm planning to do medicine at UP."
Valeska Moodley from Umzinto Secondary School was placed third in the Ugu District.
She said Grade 12 was stressful, but her mum supported her all the way.
"My mother helped me a lot, and she would help me like when I was even studying, she would stay awake with me sometimes. She would make me understand difficult concepts that I didn't understand."
