KZN matrics top of class for number of distinctions

KZN's class of 2023 already has cause for celebration.

The province has improved its distinction rate, overtaking the Western Cape to rank first.
Director-general of the Basic Education Department, Hubert Mweli, gave a technical performance breakdown ahead of the official results announcement on Thursday evening.
"KZN is leading from 6% that they've obtained in 2022, they've now moved to 8.3% distinctions,” he said.
"KZN accounts for 25% of the total number of learners. It’s the biggest part of our system, followed by Gauteng."

The Class of 2023 achieved an overall pass rate of 82.9%, a 2.8 percentage points increase compared to the previous year.
The Free State was once again the top achieving province with an 89.3% overall pass rate, while Limpopo showed the most improvement with a 7.4% increase.
KZN came in second with a pass rate of 86.36%
Individual candidates will get their results on Friday.
