KZN ANC: eThekwini elective conference nearing

The ANC in KZN says it believes eThekwini's regional conference will kick off at the end of March or somewhere in Mid-April.

It previously said it hoped the conference would go ahead in December.

Provincial Secretary, Mdumiseni Ntuli briefed reporters in Durban on Wednesday - on the party's two-day Lekgotla over the weekend. 


He says they'll meet with their branches in all three regions this weekend to present audit outcomes and details on the branches' membership roles.

The party said previously that the delays were being caused by a membership system introduced by the NEC.

Reacting to UKZN's student demonstrations, Ntuli says the protests and vandalism at tertiary institutions need to stop.

"We don't think the only way you can make your voice heard is by vandalising the same property you need for your own success."

Ntuli says they met with the student leadership from UKZN's five campuses this week.

He says they've been given a clearer picture of what their issues are. 

"We then made a call to seek an audience with the management of the university, primarily to lend a hand in order to avert the current crisis that is going on but also to persuade all parties into negotiations."

He's condemned all acts of violence. 

"At the end of the strike, they need the facilities that were vandalised and our view was that, that action of vandalising properties are inappropriate and it should not be allowed."
