KZN Agriculture pleading with farmers not to move cattle
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The
Department of Agriculture in KwaZulu-Natal is pleading with farmers and
cattle owners to not move their livestock around.
It's now picked up the highly contagious foot-and-mouth disease in eThekwini.
The country last week banned the movement of cattle for 21 days, following an outbreak of the disease.
The department's Vusi Zuma says it's already started affecting meat and dairy products.

“The MEC is worried that the foot and mouth have now spread and moved to the eThekwini district, as we speak there is a positive case identified by the department in the area of KwaNyuswa. This is why the MEC will be visiting that area to do a vaccination campaign.”
Agriculture MEC Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi will be in KwaNyuswa in iLembe on Tuesday, where she’ll present a list of measures taken to stop the spread of the disease, which's also been recorded in Limpopo and the Free State.
She'll also explain the source of the problem in the affected areas of uMkhanyakude, Zululand, King Cetshwayo and eThekwini and its impact on South Africa’s neighbouring countries.
