KwaMashu school reopens after protest by parents
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
A high school in KwaMashu, north of Durban, has reopened its doors to pupils and teachers.
The school’s gates were locked on Tuesday by angry parents calling for the principal to be axed.
The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal says there was a brief disturbance at Sivananda Comprehensive High.
The department's Muzi Mahlambi says they've sent a team to the school to help restore calm. “Parents locked the gate, demanding the removal of the principle on the allegation of mismanagement of funds and the deteriorating (standards) of teaching and learning, more especially around the metric results.
“We dispatched our local office, in the form of the circuit manager, who was able to speak to the parents.
“Teaching and learning is going on.”
Officials will also investigate the allegations made against the principal.
