According to a statement from the iLembe District Municipality, interruptions on Wednesday were due to power trips caused by load shedding.

But resident Nishkar Maharaj says they weren't warned about the water cuts.

"From Tuesday evening up until today, there hasn't been any water. So residents are really upset and the fact they are not getting positive answers as to when we will get water or any reason behind that has been frustrating hence the peaceful protest residents decided to do on Saturday."

Ward 17 councillor Madhun Sing says he's trying his best to assist them.

"Five days is a long time. Water is life - sanitation is dignity. We have got pockets of poor people, all cannot afford water tankers and they depend on the water services.

"I have bombarded all the departments, I have sent WhatsApps to the mayor, municipal manager, I even sent to the premier."
