'Kill the Boer' ruling poses test for South Africa - analyst
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A political analyst feels the 'Kill the Boer' high court ruling could pose a new test for unity in the country.

The Equality Court sitting in Johannesburg on Thursday dismissed the hate speech case brought by lobby group Afriforum against the EFF over the singing of the song Dubula ibunu.
Afriforum dragged leader Julius Malema to court for singing the song mainly between 2016 and 2019 during public gatherings.

The group wanted it banned.
The court, however, found that Afriforum failed to make a reasonable argument that the song was tantamount to hate speech or incited violence.
The lobby group says it will appeal the ruling.

Political analyst, Somadoda Fikeni, says the decision throws down the gauntlet to leaders to find common ground on controversial matters.
"I do think there are things which are historical and it would be difficult to ban everything. The biggest challenge is leadership that will create a common vision and a common understanding and a dialogue conducive to such."
