Khoza wants neighbour re-arrested for kidnapping, raping young girl

KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza has called for the re-arrest of a man charged with kidnapping a nine-year-old girl.

It's alleged that the child was reported missing in Ixopo earlier this month.
She was found three days later.
The girl had reportedly been locked inside a house by a neighbour, who allegedly sexually abused her.

The department's Mhlaba Memela says the MEC is shocked that the accused was released following his appearance in a local magistrate's court last week.
He says the case was apparently not placed on the court roll.
"This turn of events has raised serious concern about handling such grave cases and underscores the urgent needs for comprehensive reform in the legal system to protect the rights and the safety of the most vulnerable citizens."
"The department is committed to working closely with the law enforcement agencies, communities, organisations and the stakeholders to provide support and assistance to the affected child and her family."
