Khanyile accused of delay tactics as unrest trial postponed

Alleged unrest instigator and former Fees Must Fall activist Bonginkosi Khanyile has been accused of delay tactics by the State as his trial is postponed.

Khanyile was arrested in last September for allegedly inciting the violence that claimed the lives of over 300 people and saw widespread looting and damage to property in July last year.
The court previously heard he was involved because he refused to accept the jailing of former president Jacob Zuma.
He appeared in the Durban Regional Court earlier on Monday.
Khanyile, through his attorney, asked for a postponement as he has decided to add additional counsel to his defence.

The court also heard that his lawyer received a document late from the State.
State Prosecutor Yuri Gangai refuted this, telling the court he had tried to get a hold of Khanyile's attorney 13 times to hand over the document and eventually managed to get it to him on Saturday.
Gangai also told the court Khanyile only notified his attorney this morning of his intention to add counsel and did not show up at consultations prior to this.
The magistrate postponed the matter to Friday.
