Kennedy Road fire: Officials assist as residents rebuild homes

Residents of the Kennedy Road Informal Settlement who are housed temporarily at a community hall have started rebuilding with materials that were not completely destroyed, in a fire last week.
The fire engulfed almost 200 homes in the Durban area - leaving hundreds of people displaced.
Residents dug through the rubble to find their belongings and any materials not destroyed in the blaze.

Local councillor Hassan Haniff says eThekwini Municipality's disaster management team has been working with community members to put together a list of those in need of building materials.
"Disaster management and Human Settlements are sorting out the final issues about the release and building materials for the residents. They were compiling the lists for the affected residents," he said.
