Kelly Chetty murder: State still waiting for evidence
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The State's still waiting for various pieces of evidence it needs before it can proceed with its case against Sphamandla Buthelezi - the 31-year-old man accused of murdering Kelly Chetty.
The Durban father was gunned down in a violent hijacking in Avoca in May.
Police worked through the night to net the men responsible and swooped on suspects near the KwaMashu Hostel, early the following morning.
Two of them were killed in an exchange of gunfire but a third escaped.
He was, however, later traced to a local clinic, where he'd gone to seek treatment for the injuries he'd suffered during the shootout.
Mkhize made his third appearance before the Durban Magistrate's Court this week.
The court heard the police had yet to complete their investigations and that they are still waiting for DNA results as well as a ballistics report.
The State's asked for a lengthy adjournment - of two months - for the finalization of the case.
In the meantime, Buthelezi has abandoned bail and he will remain in custody until his next appearance - which will be via a video link from Westville Prison - in September.
