Kaunda vows to solve KwaNdengezi water, electricity woes
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says the city is ready to address the water and power challenges that have been affecting the KwaNdengezi community, outside Pinetown.
He met with residents on Wednesday after some community members embarked on a service delivery protest earlier this week, bringing the area to a standstill.
"In relation to water, there were pipes which were affected but we are remaining with small areas without water in the area which we are attending to and we are also supplying those communities with water tankers that we are using as a municipality."

He says illegal electricity connections and cable theft are behind the community's power outages.
"We have put a new cable that comes from the upper side of the KwaNdengezi area to mitigate this challenge so that people do not suffer a lot whenever people have stolen our cables.
"But we will be reticulating those who do not have prepaid meters in their households so that we reduce the number of people who are tapping into our grid illegally."
