Kaunda vows to improve service delivery through spending, tariff hikes

Mxolisi Kaunda says the city will be increasing spending to improve service
delivery.
He says the budget proposed for electricity will assist in reducing power outages in the city.
"The municipality has allocated a total budget of R21.5 billion and an operating budget of R20.8 billion. In addition, there is a provision of R1.145 billion for repairs and maintenance to rehabilitate the electricity network so that it is stable.

Kaunda tabled the annual draft budget for the 2024/2025 financial year at a council meeting at the ICC on Tuesday.
On water supply issues, he said water services have a total budget of R9.8 billion and an operating budget of R8.4 billion.

"In addition, there is a provision of R423 million for repairs and maintenance to rehabilitate the water infrastructure."
He's explained there'll be tariff hikes for sanitation and waste management services.
"Our sanitation tariff increase is 12.9% for residents and businesses.
"Cleaning and solid waste are the lifeblood of healthy and sustainable environments. All these waste management interventions result in a refuse tariff increase of 8% for residents and 9% for business."
