eThekwini ratepayers should be compensated for service disruptions - DA
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
A call
has been
made for eThekwini to compensate ratepayers whose
services were disrupted during the recent municipal workers' strike.
Refuse collection, health services at clinics and repairs to water and electricity infrastructure were put on hold during the almost three-week-long SAMWU work stoppage.
According to DA eThekwini caucus leader Thabani Mthethwa, it wasn't fair to residents.
READ:
"There are areas in eThekwini that have not had any electricity and water for over two weeks. The streets of eThekwini are dirty, with rubbish piling up every day with no DSW to clear it up. Ratepayers can't be expected to pay for services they are not receiving."
Meanwhile, refuse and clean-up operations are underway across the city.
