Kaunda to meet ratepayers' associations amid boycott threat

The Westville Ratepayers Association says it would be in
eThekwini's best interests to resolve concerns around service delivery as soon
as possible.

It has warned that a failure to do so would put the city at risk of being placed under administration.
Several associations are scheduled to meet with Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda on Thursday evening to address a list of issues they believe have hampered the delivery of services to households.
The Westville Ratepayers Association has threatened a rates boycott over municipal tariff hikes that took effect in July.
It wants the increases to be set aside until both parties come to an agreement on the matter.
The group's Asad Gaffar says they will attend the meeting.
"If we don't then it seems we did not act in good faith and our demands remain the same. Until the city meets those demands we will continue with our protest action.

"They obviously don't have an understanding of what is required to run the city and they therefore need that assistance.
"Therefore putting the city under administration will give us the opportunity to get the best people in this position to be able to run the city because if it collapses it affects the livelihoods of many people and that is what we are trying to avoid."
