Updated | By Lauren Beukes
eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says the latest crime stats, which revealing the city contributes to half of KZN's crime, is a cause for concern.

He says there needs to be interventions.
Kaunda was speaking at a provincial crime summit in Durban on Friday.
"We must also indicate that fighting crime cannot be the sole reasonability of government,” he said.

"It for this reason that in this crime summit, we have all stakeholders involved in the fight against crime because fighting crime indeed is a collective responsibility; hence we have academia here, all stakeholders, researchers and everybody that is involved in the civil society."
He said discussions must also focus on illegal firearms.
"Consumption of drugs and alcohol also adds to the high level of crime that we are faced with. We must also discuss how we can build positive societal attitudes and values by increasing the strength, capacity and resilience of individuals, families, and communities in relation to the known risk factors to make communities unsafe."
