Kaunda details eThekwini water supply solutions
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says the city is exploring ways to supplement its current water supply.
The mayor has written a letter to residents to detail their water restoration plans, saying the surge in demand has exceeded the municipality's available supply.
As part of their ambitious plan to deal with Durban's water crisis, the mayor says they're teaming up with the national government and utility, uMngeni-uThukela Water.
One of the projects they'll be working on is the construction of the Upper uMkhomazi Dam.
That, according to the mayor, is a long-term solution.

In the meantime, there are other interventions to get taps running again.
Kaunda says that Phoenix and Verulam are working on increasing the water flow to reservoirs there.
The city will replace air valves in the trunk main at Mount View.
To address issues in Chatsworth, Shallcross, uMlazi and Folweni, repairs to the 24-kilometre-long Southern Aqueduct will start next month.
Ntuzuma, Inanda, Lindelani and KwaMashu should also start receiving a stable water supply after the Ntuzuma 2 Pumpstation is upgraded in March.
