JSC told KZN courts plagued by myriad of issues

KwaZulu-Natal's courts are dealing with a string of daily challenges, with load shedding, inadequate space and WiFi connectivity issues among the main concerns.

This is according to KwaZulu-Natal Deputy Judge President Mjabuliseni Madondo.


"If we don't have the tools to perform our work, what kind of result is expected at the end of the day?" 


The KZN High Court Judge nominee is being interviewed by the Judicial Service Commission headed by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo in Sandton.


Madondo's been asked to list the key challenges facing courts in the province and how he plans on addressing them.

"We don't have sufficient courtrooms. I have taken some steps to address those problems, but the problem now is with the public works, load shedding - where you there is no electricity as early as 10 o'clock or twice a day.


"We don't have a generator. Lifts are not always in order. When it comes to access to justice, there's a lot of problems created by these traditional leadership disputes.


"There are too many in KwaZulu-Natal where you find people toyi-toying and jumping all day wanting to address their question of traditional leadership."
