Jozini municipal staff not paid due to money woes
Updated | By Andile Tsotetsi
The Jozini Local Municipality has confirmed that municipal workers will not be paid on time this month.

The northern KwaZulu-Natal municipality blames cash flow problems and R17 million in unpaid government debt.
It says the financial crisis began in November last year and has taken a turn for the worse, despite the use of an overdraft facility.
The non-payment of salaries has led the EFF in KZN to call on the Auditor-General to launch a forensic audit of the municipality’s finances.

The party's spokesperson, Chris Msibi, who says they have notified staff, blames long-term mismanagement for the crisis.
" We want to institute an inquiry as to what is happening in Jozini Municipality in particular. They must be investigated so that we can find out what happened to the money.
“If they are to be jailed, let them be. Let it be so that the people of the Jozini Municipality get the services that they deserve."
