Jobs opportunities to stem from Durban's cruise terminal
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Transnet National Ports Authority says a new cruise terminal in the Port of Durban will help boost local tourism numbers.
It's concluded a deal that'll see KwaZulu Cruise Terminals finance, construct, operate and transfer a new cruise terminal facility.
Transnet and KCT signed off on the R200-million plus project on Monday.
The parastatal says the agreement is one that will benefit both parties but most importantly will help grow the city of Durban as a cruise destination.
It's confident the project will create jobs, implement new technologies and boost tourism numbers for the city and country.
The new terminal will coincide with the expansion of the beachfront promenade from uShaka Marine World to the harbour mouth, as well as the further development of the Durban Point Waterfront.
The design phase kicks off this month, with construction expected to be completed in time for the 2020/2021 cruise season.
Transnet says the new terminal will help attract larger vessels and more cruise liners to South Africa.
