IPID probes death of hijacker allegedly shot by Metro cop

Police watchdog - IPID is probing the death of a suspected hijacker who was shot - allegedly by a Durban metro cop.

It's understood the officer was on his way to work when three knife-wielding men tried to hijack him in Pinetown.
IPID spokesperson Ndileka Cola says shots were fired and one of the alleged robbers was hit.
The others fled.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating death as a result of police action., IPID’s Investigation Officer attended the crime scene.
The firearm of the law enforcement officer has been taken for ballistic analysis, post mortem date is yet to be determined. “
