KZN Legislature probe uncovers PPE tender irregularities

The KZN Legislature's SCOPA widespread irregularities and falsified information are just some of the things uncovered by its probe into the awarding of PPE tenders in the province.

The committee on public accounts says several officials- mainly from three provincial departments - have also been implicated.
These are Social Development, Basic Education and Health.
The committee's Maggie Govender says they've found national Treasury's guidelines on COVID-19 procurement were deviated from extensively.

"Several high-value contracts that have been awarded to companies who are not tax complaint then we found also that the unit prices differ from company to company.
"We also found that one of the companies has received three contracts under three different names. Our concern was inflation of prices, we have raised this and said this is not correct," she said.
