Investigations into north coast factory fire begin
Updated | By Portia Cele
A fire that engulfed the security offices of a paper packaging factory in Mandeni on the north coast has been extinguished.
Khulekani Thusi, a fire officer at Mandeni Fire Station, said it took them almost two hours to put out this morning's blaze.
"Firefighters have managed to extinguish the fire - both Ithala and Rural Metro services from the Mandeni fire station. What was burnt was not the actual plant, but the offices where the security sits. Currently, the cause of the fire is unknown," he said.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says flames were seen towering over the building of the packaging company earlier.
"It's a medium sized building of a packaging plant and it's one of the bigger factories in Mandeni. IPSS Medical Rescue received a call that there was smoke coming out of the building. On investigation we found that one of the rooms within the centre of the factory is on fire," Herbst said.
