Less than 1% of South Africans donate blood while a single unit of blood only lasts 42 days post-donation. The South African National Blood Service says there's currently 2.1 days worth of bloodstock in KZN left and for that reason, the blood service hopes World Blood Donor Day will encourage South Africans to actively donate blood.
